With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, there is just no other wine that comes to mind than St. Michael-Eppan, Alto Adige Sauvignon “Sanct Valentin” DOC 2013 ($34) 😉 So, that is the wine that we are going to review today.
Happy Valentine’s Day, y’all! 😉
The Bottom Line
Overall, the Sauvignon Sanct Valentin was very good: it had an expressive bouquet with tertiary aromas well under control (thanks to its being aged mostly in stainless steel) and a great, coherent mouthfeel, where its high ABV and gentle smoothness were perfectly balanced by its intense sapidity and zippy acidity.

The Alto Adige region is not far from here, a 3 hours car ride maybe. So I´ve had the opportunity to spend a few short trips and holidays there, mostly doing biking tours with my husband, which provided us with a big appetite in the evening to enjoy the local food and wine of course! I didn´t know there was a Saint Valentin vineyard, how perfect for the upcoming occasion!
How wonderful, Sabine, that you are so close by Alto Adige! It really is a beautiful region with some breathtaking landscapes, good food and very good wine.
I love Sauvignon Blanc, Stefano. This one I looked up immediately at my wine merchant, but sorry, it’s not available. So I decided to treat ourselves with your recommendation SB NZ Cloudy Bay, very much looking forward to this outstanding wine that I hadn’t heard of.:-)
Cheers, dear friend,
wishing you and yours a Happy Valentine’s day! 🙂

Thank you, dear Dina: I am sorry that you will not be able to taste the Sanct Valentin this time around, but please let me know how you like the Cloudy Bay: I *love* it and look forward to your opinion! Enjoy and be merry, you guys – and Happy Valentine’ Day to you too! 🙂
Love,
Stefano
I could imagine my late husband uttering his classic toast on Valentine’s, ‘Here’s to your eyes…’ Too long a story for a short comment, but appropriate to mention on your blog. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for that glimpse on your Valentine’s Days, Maureen. They must have been wonderful. All the best, Stefano
